The character tool allows you to speak as a name other than your avatar name. This can be useful for role play in a few ways. Maybe your avatar name doesn't fit the theme of the role play you want to participate in. You could make an alt but maybe the non fitting name has some inventory that would be great for that role play. Or maybe you don't feel like having a bunch of alts but want to play more than one character on the same avatar or recyle an avatar where you may have killed of the old character name.

Wear the character tool. It will attach to your left eyeball with text appearing above the area of your regular avatar name. The text should say Ima Player as your temporary name. Now you need to change the name to what you want your character to be called.

Type /33 ctool

This will give you the drop down menu to do all the functions of the character tool.

If you have more than one avatar using the character tool in a region you may need for one of you to switch what channel you use to type. There is a set channel button in the drop down menu to accomodate this.

Once you have set up the tool you will need to type /33 before each line of text you wish to communicate as that name. For example /33 Good day Madam. How are you enjoying the weather? becomes

"Ima Player: Good day Madam. How are you enjoying the weather?"

To emote type /33/me. So for example here /33/me smiles and nods inquiring "Good day Madam. How are you enjoying the weather?" will look like this:

Ima Player smiles and nods inquiring "Good day Madam. How are you enjoying the weather?"

At any time you need to make an adjustment to your character tool you can again type /33 ctool. Or if you've changed the channel type /whatever number ctool.
