Question: What constraints do monopoly firms face?

Answer: Like any firm, a monopolist has production costs coupled with a demand constraint. That is, although a monopolist is a price setter (read: whatever price the monopolist decides to charge will be the market price), every monopoly firm is constrained by the downward sloping demand curve it faces and accordingly, must lower its price in order to sell more output.
